How to Make a DIY Easter Lantern Centerpiece
What you’ll need (shopping list)
- 1 lantern (white, weathered, or soft pastel)
- Fairy lights (warm white) or a flameless candle
- 8–15 decorative eggs (speckled or matte pastels)
- Blooming branches (faux dogwood, cherry blossom, or magnolia bloom)
- Greenery base (faux fern, eucalyptus, lamb’s ear, or moss)
- 3–5 soft spring florals (ranunculus, roses, peonies)
- Ribbon or gauze (optional, for airy texture)
- Floral Foam (optional, to secure branches, hot glue to tray; test small amount of hot glue to underside of tray to make sure it doesn’t damage it)
- Floral wire or twist ties + scissors
- A tray/board (optional, to anchor the arrangement)
Step-by-step directions
Step 1: Pick your placement
Choose a spot with a simple background so the glow and blooms stand out:
- Entry table
- Mantel
- Kitchen island
- Coffee table (use a smaller lantern)
Step 2: Build a soft “nest” inside the lantern
Open the lantern and add:
- A small bundle of moss/greenery (or tissue paper) to lift the eggs up
This makes the eggs look “styled,” not sunk to the bottom.
Step 3: Add the glow
Tuck warm fairy lights in first (best for sparkle through glass).
If you prefer simple, use a flameless candle behind the eggs.
Step 4: Arrange the eggs (the easy method)
Use odd numbers and vary sizes:
- Put 1–2 larger eggs in back
- Cluster smaller eggs in front
- Angle a few eggs slightly so it looks natural
Step 5: Create the base around the lantern
Place the lantern on your tray/board (optional), then build a base:
- Cut a small amount of floral foam and hot glue it to your board or tray at the front of the lantern and the back of the lantern on the opposite side (test your hot glue on a small area on the underside of the board or tray, to make sure it won’t damage the tray or board)
- Lay greenery in a loose oval
- Add a few eggs outside the lantern for a “spilled garden” feel
Step 6: Add spring florals
Tuck flowers low at the base:
- 1 focal bloom on each side
- 1–2 smaller blooms near the front
Keep colors soft: blush, cream, pale peach, muted green.
Step 7: Add blooming branches for height
Insert branches, in the floral foam, behind and slightly to the sides:
- One branch taller than the other
- Aim for an asymmetrical “garden” silhouette
Use floral wire if needed to secure to the tray or greenery base.
Step 8: Add airy texture (optional but pretty)
Drape gauze ribbon lightly through the greenery:
- Don’t tie it—just “float” it
This makes the arrangement look elevated and romantic.
Step 9: Final styling tips
- Step back and remove 1–2 items if it feels crowded
- Add a small stack of books or a little framed print nearby
- Photograph in daylight with lights on for that cozy sparkle
